# GitHub

GitHub is a platform for hosting Git repositories and collaborating on software development. Development teams use it to store and version code, track work in issues, review changes through pull requests, and automate builds and deployments.

With the GitHub integration, you can explore how a repository is organized, find issues and pull requests and follow their discussions, and review code from Omnifact, including leaving review comments on specific lines of code. You can also open issues and pull requests, comment on them, and work with branches and files without switching to GitHub. Users sign in with their own GitHub account and only see and change repositories and issues they have access to in GitHub.

## What to know before using GitHub with Omnifact

Use cases, setup, and permissions when your team connects GitHub to Omnifact.

### What can Omnifact do with GitHub?

Omnifact reads, searches, and works on GitHub in plain language. Get a pull request explained with its changed files and checks, find open issues by label or author, leave review comments on specific lines, or open a new issue. Omnifact can also combine GitHub with your other connected tools, for example to link a support ticket to the matching issue.

### Can I turn a bug report into a GitHub issue with Omnifact?

Yes. Paste a customer email or support note into the chat and ask Omnifact to write a clear GitHub issue with a title, steps to reproduce, and labels. Omnifact shows you the draft and creates the issue after you confirm, so you can adjust the wording first. The issue appears in GitHub under your own account.

### Can Omnifact explain how a GitHub repository is organized?

Yes. Omnifact reads the files, folders, and commit history of a repository and explains how the project is structured, where a feature such as login is handled, and what changed in the latest release. New team members find their way around a codebase without asking senior engineers about every detail.

### Which GitHub repositories can Omnifact see?

Exactly the repositories you can already open in GitHub, including private ones. Everyone signs in with their own GitHub account, so Omnifact works with each person's own access and never through a shared admin account. Depending on your GitHub settings, an organization owner approves the connection once for private repositories.

### Does Omnifact ask before changing anything in GitHub?

Yes. By default, merging a pull request, editing a file, or submitting a review waits for your confirmation in the chat. Reading issues and searching code run right away. Admins decide which GitHub actions are allowed, which need confirmation, and which are switched off.

### How does Omnifact handle GitHub source code?

Your GitHub content stays in GitHub under your agreement with GitHub. Omnifact reads code, pull requests, and issues live when a request needs them, instead of copying or indexing your repositories in advance, and what it reads becomes part of that conversation. Omnifact is operated in Germany, business data is not used to train the connected AI models, and admins can limit Omnifact to European or Europe-hosted models.

### How do I connect GitHub to Omnifact?

Your IT team first sets up a one-time connection in GitHub, following GitHub's guide. An Omnifact admin then adds GitHub once for the whole organization, and everyone signs in with their own GitHub account. From then on, people can ask about repositories, issues, and pull requests in any conversation.
