# Feature Drop: OpenAI GPT-Image-2.6 Sunburst, Flare, and Animated GIFs in Chat

Published on November 5th, 2026

Sometimes a static image is not enough to get an idea across. Whether you want to illustrate a quick concept for a presentation, add motion to an internal announcement, or bring a rough sketch to life, a short animation often says it best.

Starting today, you can create **animated GIFs** directly in Omnifact Chat, powered by OpenAI's newest image models: **GPT-Image-2.6 Sunburst** and **GPT-Image-2.6 Flare**.

## Create Animated GIFs Right in the Conversation

With GPT-Image-2.6 active, creating an animation works the same way as asking for a regular image. Describe what you want to see and how it should move in the Chat Input, and Omnifact generates an animated GIF that plays right inside your conversation. You can start from a written description, a photo you upload, or an image already in the chat.

- **Simple text prompts:** Ask for a looping icon, a moving illustration, or a short visual explainer in plain language. You can also mention if you want the animation to feel slower, faster, or a few frames longer.
- **Start from a photo:** Upload an image, or use one already in the conversation, and describe how it should move. You can still [edit still images](https://omnifact.ai/blog/feature-drop-edit-generated-images) the same way as before.
- **Animated charts and data:** If you need an animated chart or a data-driven visual from a spreadsheet, Omnifact can also build GIFs using [code execution](https://omnifact.ai/blog/feature-drop-code-execution-and-document-creation), and those play inline in the chat too.

## Two New Image Models for Speed or Detail

Building on our earlier [GPT-Image-2 rollout](https://omnifact.ai/blog/feature-drop-openai-gpt-image-2), OpenAI now offers two options in the 2.6 generation so your team can pick the right balance of speed and visual detail:

- **GPT-Image-2.6 Flare (New OpenAI Default):** A fast, responsive model built for everyday image creation, quick edits, and animated GIFs. If your team uses OpenAI for image generation, Omnifact now uses Flare automatically so you get the newest generation without extra setup.
- **GPT-Image-2.6 Sunburst:** OpenAI's most capable image model, designed for rich compositions, fine details, and complex visual prompts when precision matters more than speed.

Previous OpenAI image models remain available in the settings dropdown if your team wants to compare styles or keep an existing setup.

## Privacy and EU Data Residency

Just like every other chat in Omnifact, your image prompts remain protected by our [Privacy Filter](https://omnifact.ai/blog/feature-drop-privacy-filter), which uses rule-based and AI-powered detection to pseudonymize PII within Omnifact's infrastructure before reaching any external model.

For organizations that keep image generation strictly within European cloud infrastructure, **Google Nano Banana 2** on [Google Cloud in the EU](https://omnifact.ai/blog/feature-drop-eu-data-residency-vertex-ai) stays the default image model. Teams using OpenAI can switch between Flare and Sunburst at any time.

## Available Today

Animated GIFs, GPT-Image-2.6 Flare, and GPT-Image-2.6 Sunburst are available today across Omnifact.

Team administrators can choose their organization's active image model in **Team Settings → Models** under **Image Generation Model**, and everyone on the team can start creating images and animated GIFs right from the Chat Input.
