OpenAI GPT-6.1 Terra is now available on Omnifact with EU data residency on Azure.

# Feature Drop: OpenAI GPT-6.1 Terra Now Available

Published on October 27th, 2026

OpenAI's balanced model, **GPT-6.1 Terra**, is now available on Omnifact. Following our additions of [GPT-6 Sol and Luna](https://omnifact.ai/blog/feature-drop-gpt-6-sol-luna) and the flagship GPT-6.1 Sol, GPT-6.1 Terra provides teams with a capable workhorse for daily technical and analytical tasks. It pairs the reasoning depth, vision, and long-context capabilities of the GPT-6 generation with pricing designed for widespread organizational rollout on [Microsoft Azure in the EU](https://omnifact.ai/blog/feature-drop-azure-openai-integration) and direct endpoints.

## Balanced Intelligence for Daily Professional Work

GPT-6.1 Terra operates as the standard-tier reasoning model in the OpenAI lineup, bridging the gap between lightweight assistants and high-credit flagships. While GPT-6 Luna handles quick summaries and GPT-6.1 Sol tackles difficult architectural design, Terra provides the everyday engine for multi-step tasks such as code reviews, technical documentation, and tabular analysis.

Earlier this year, our [GPT-5.6 family rollout](https://omnifact.ai/blog/feature-drop-gpt-5-6-sol-terra-luna) introduced Terra as a mid-tier option. GPT-6.1 Terra officially supersedes GPT-5.6 Terra, delivering sharper instruction following, lower latency, and upgraded agentic coordination. Teams get the benefit of modern GPT-6 reasoning across regular assignments without drawing from premium credit allocations.

With a 1,050,000-token context window and multimodal vision support, Terra handles extensive document batches alongside visual references. The model operates with a June 2026 knowledge cutoff, providing up-to-date baseline training for contemporary technical and operational research.

## Comparing GPT-6.1 Terra in the OpenAI Lineup

Selecting the appropriate model depends on task complexity, turnaround requirements, and budget constraints. GPT-6.1 Terra halves the token cost of GPT-6.1 Sol while handling technical workflows that outpace smaller models:

| Model | Role & Best Used For | Context Window | Token Pricing (per 1M) | Model Tier |
| :------------------------------- | :---------------------------------------------------------------------- | :------------- | :-------------------------- | :--------- |
| **GPT-6.1 Sol** | Complex system design, multi-file software engineering, heavy reasoning | 1,050,000 | $2.00 input / $10.00 output | Premium |
| **GPT-6.1 Terra** | Everyday coding, technical drafting, structured data analysis | 1,050,000 | $1.00 input / $5.00 output | Standard |
| **GPT-6 Luna** | High-volume extraction, translation, quick summaries | 1,050,000 | $0.10 input / $0.50 output | Base |
| **GPT-5.6 Terra** _(Superseded)_ | Previous-generation balanced model for general workflows | 1,050,000 | $2.00 input / $12.00 output | Standard |

Standard input tokens for GPT-6.1 Terra cost $1.00 per million, with cached input priced at $0.05 per million and output at $5.00 per million. For extended contexts exceeding 272,000 prompt tokens, rates shift to $2.00 input and $7.50 output. This pricing structure makes sustained analysis across large files and long conversational histories economical.

On Azure in the EU, standard rates are $1.20 per million input tokens and $6.00 per million output tokens, giving organizations predictable cost models within European cloud boundaries.

## Enterprise Governance and European Data Residency

GPT-6.1 Terra is available immediately with dedicated European data residency on Microsoft Azure in Sweden Central, alongside direct endpoints. Azure Data Zone processing operates under strict zero data retention commitments, ensuring that organizational data is never stored by third parties or used for model training.

Every prompt, document retrieval, and tool call remains protected by our Privacy Filter, which uses rule-based and AI-powered detection that pseudonymizes PII before data reaches any model. Organizations in regulated industries can deploy GPT-6.1 Terra knowing their compliance posture remains intact across both ad-hoc chats and autonomous agent workflows.

## Enabling GPT-6.1 Terra in Your Workspace

Team administrators can activate GPT-6.1 Terra immediately through the administration console. Because Terra is classified as a standard-tier model, it serves as an economical default for general members while keeping premium quotas reserved for specialized tasks.

To turn on the model for your team:

1. Navigate to **Admin Settings** and select the **Models** tab.
2. Locate **GPT-6.1 Terra** under the Azure OpenAI or OpenAI provider sections.
3. Toggle the model on to make it accessible across the workspace.

Admins can also use [Group Management](https://omnifact.ai/blog/feature-drop-group-management) to assign specific model permissions across departments, ensuring engineering and operations groups receive the exact models their daily routines require. Once activated, team members can select GPT-6.1 Terra directly from the model selector inside the Chat Input.
